Need, Want, Skip

Need It, Want It, Skip It – New Beauty Releases

From time to time, I surf Trendmood or This is Forty on Instagram to check out any upcoming releases that pique my interest. I always save the posts that interest me and I had developed quite a collection of pictures. Now some of them, in hindsight, are definite Skips, but others fall somewhere in the categories of Need and Want.

The Need and Want categories are so hard to differentiate sometimes because why is it a Need and others just a Want? Wouldn’t you want something you need? I think I’m overthinking this, right?

Anyways, without further ado, here are my current Needs, Wants and Skips.

Need

I only see two Needs in my folder at this time and, I will admit, that both of these “Needs” are really because I love the packaging. I swear, I am your prototypical consumer. Slap something pretty on the front of a palette or create something that appeals to my childhood or inner geek and I’m sold.

Such is the case with the Smashbox x VladaMUA collection. I swear, they could literally be selling me fecal matter and I am 99.9% sure I would buy it because I love Rose Gold and the packaging is outrageously GORGEOUS. Now, I’m not saying I would buy the entire collection, but I’m pretty sure I will pick up something.

Same goes for the upcoming Nyx Steampunk inspired collection. These colors can be pure garbage, but I will still buy it because I happen to love everything about this fictional Victorian era subculture filled with machines and metal.

Want

These are items that I will most likely pick up, but I don’t see any real rush in getting them. I will probably wait till some reviews come out or, better yet, maybe even go on sale before I buy anything.

I love Nudestix and even though I don’t own much from them, I like how easy they make applying makeup look. Therefore, these Tinted Blur Sticks are very much drawing me in right now. If they blur any unwanted features (ahem, sinkhole size pores) while providing some coverage, then I am totally in!

I want something from the Kat Von D 10 Year Anniversary Gold Fever collection because it’s most likely going to be limited edition and a collectors item, so I know I shouldn’t wait for any reviews, but I’m hesitating a little. Not sure why it’s not a Need, but maybe I have to trust my gut and wait.

I love a good lip gloss and having never head of Hank & Henry, I was intrigued by these. They don’t look like anything special, but wondering about the overall product. I think I will wait to see how the reviews go before I shell out $17 for a lip topper.

Does anyone else think that both Maybelline and L’Oréal coming out with fruit inspired collections at the same time is kind of weird? Isn’t the fruit theme a little played out already (i.e. Too Faced Peach EVERYTHING)? Regardless, these are cute and with a coupon or sale, I will probably pick one up. They both look pretty similar to me, so I guess it will just depend on who goes on sale first.

Skip

I MIGHT wait for a coupon or a sale, but chances are higher that I will skip this Neutrogena x Kerry Washington collection. The cheek palette looks absolutely adorable, but I must admit that the eyeshadows are not drawing me in. I know I have all these colors already, therefore, unless you are just starting your makeup collection there is no need to add the Essential Eye palette to my stash.

Same goes for the Wet n’ Wild Midnight Mermaid collection below. I love that more and more brands are coming out with blues, but this is just a tad bit too dark and moody for my taste. I prefer something just a bit brighter.

Anybody feeling a little burnt out by the Kardashians? Seriously, I like them, but I feel like this Kourtney x Kylie collab is just a bit tardy to the party.

Last on the Skip list are highlighters in general. I have come to the conclusion that I don’t need another highlighter and since I tend to stick to the same light golden shade for the most part, there is no need for me to pick up any of the below any time soon. I mean they are pretty, but, whatever! Not feeling highlighters lately for some reason.

To Be Determined

I’m pretty interested in seeing what Becca and Chrissy Teigen come up with, but no details yet other than something is in the works, so will wait and see what they have for us.

Anyone else see something lately that they are Needing, Wanting or Skipping? If so, drop the link in the comments below.

Till next time, my friends!

Holidays · The Friday Five

The Friday Five – Best Beauty Gift Ideas under $50

How can Christmas be only 17 days away? You know I’m freaking out a bit. I mean, how can I possibly fit in all the shopping, wrapping, decorating, cooking, school holiday shows, Christmas parties and drinking in just 17 days?

Ha! Who am I kidding? I’m drinking a glass of wine as I type, so totally do-able under duress.

But no worries, my friends. I am here to help you cross a few items off your Christmas list for that beauty addict friend and I PROMISE I will have a little something for everyone’s budget. Did I mention that all of these are under $50?

I got you, girl!

#5 – Soap and Glory Get a Smooth on Set ($7.99)

Now this one is a multi-tasker. I can envision this one as a stocking stuffer or possibly for that co-worker who likes to show some leg and wears skirts or dresses. Let’s not forget the teacher who is on her feet all day long and uses hand sanitizer like 500 times a day. She needs some moisturizer and, trust me, this Soap and Glory Set delivers. Flake Away will practically peel any layer of dead skin from your body (in a good way) and the Righteous Butter will add much needed moisture back. Did I also mention that you will smell like peach butter cream with this combo and how can that be wrong?

#4 – Maybelline Merry Minis Eyeshadow and Mascara Set (8.99)

Ok, I know we have all been there. You totally forgot about the Secret Santa gift exchange and your already on your way to work and don’t have time to go to the mall to pick up a present for your blue eyed co-worker. No worries. Just pull into the nearest Walmart or Walgreens and make a bee-line to the Maybelline display and grab a Merry Minis Eyeshadow and Mascara set. Not only do you get one of the cute little City Mini palettes with gorgeous warm shades of peach, pink and browns, but you also get a mini Colossal Volume Mascara. Perfect to keep in your purse to touch up your eye look before heading out to happy hour after work.

#3 – L’Oréal Infallible Metallic Eyeshadow Kit ($12.99)

Let’s say you have a lot of friends, but a small budget. That’s ok. I’m a firm believer that it’s quality, not quantity and not only will you be saving money by buying this set, but you will be giving the gift of a metallic eye look for the holidays. BONUS: Split the pack apart and pick up a bag of Peppermint Hershey Kisses and make goody bags to hand out to your besties while celebrating the holidays around some drinks and appetizers at your favorite local bar. Just tie a cute bow and you are done.

#2 – Estee Lauder 3 Piece After Hours The Nude Lip Gift Set ($32)

Yes, I know Kylie Cosmetics revolutionized the world with her lip kits and now everyone is jumping on the band wagon. GOOD FOR US because Estee Lauder has a gorgeous lip gift set that includes a full size lipstick and gloss and mini lip liner. This would be just perfect for that mom friend who is still using the same stubby little Nyx lip liner she bought before she had her first kid 5 years ago. Girlfriend, it’s time to move on and it’s your duty as her friend to help her take the first steps into investing in herself once again. I know first hand how quickly those little rugrats take over your life. The set comes in nude and red, but baby steps. Go for the nude and then transition to red.

#1 – Smashbox Drawn In Decked Out Shadow and Highlight 3 Piece Set ($39)

Much like Scenario #3, where you have loads of friends and a limited budget, yet you have a rep to protect because your friends are picky. Not that I’m poo-pooing L’Oréal in any way, but maybe these friends are all like “Eww…drugstore makeup” and even though you have told them how AWESOME Milani Matte lipsticks are, they are hardcore Sephora fans and only go to Walgreens to pick up cough medicine. That’s ok. We all have friends like that. I’m sure you like them for other reasons, right? Anyways, here comes Smashbox to save the day. They have come out with a holiday set that includes 1 buttery soft highlighter trio (the gold one in the middle is divine), 1 mini warm palette and 1 mini cool tone palette all with GORGEOUS packaging that will make your snobby selective friends shriek with delight. Just break the set apart, gently toss them in a cute gift bag and hand them out to your girlfriends over brunch.

BONUS: Macy’s is offering 15% of the above mentioned set from Estee Lauder and Smashbox. Just use code FRIEND at checkout.

Any other holiday sets that are worthy of a shout out? If so, leave them in the comments below.

Till next time, my friends.

Beauty Empties

June Beauty Empties

I find that very rarely do I ever scrape the bottom of a beauty product. With so many new items coming out daily, it seems that you are always reaching for the next one and never really using the stuff you already have on hand. What a waste, right?

I’m guilty of it, but from time to time, I do find myself reaching for something and realize, in shock, that I have hit bottom.

Let us now take a moment of silence and appreciate the short, yet glamorous, lives of these beauty favorites. You are gone, but never forgotten.

Queue Sarah McLachlan’s “In the Arms of an Angel”.

June Product Empties

Beauty Protector Protect and Detangle. This was a Birchbox find and a definite re-buy. I don’t really know if it’s any better than any other detangler I have owned, but it smells so damn good. It’s like you coated your hair in cotton candy. My daughter, Sofia, also loves it and the minute is ran out, she put the bottle on my desk and was like “Buy now.”

Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer in Light. Smashbox has some of the best primers and I have been using this particular primer for about 2 years now. I have gone through about 3 bottles of this stuff and will definitely repurchase. My foundation looks great on top of it and it minimizes pores and shine. What more can you ask?

Hey Honey Trick and Treat Series Concealer. Another Birchbox find and will most definitely repurchase. It’s not as thick as my other concealer, Tarte’s Shape Tape, but it does a wonderful job in concealing darkness and covering fine lines. I like to use this concealer on my more natural days because it looks so real, like you were born with great under eyes and get 8 hours of sleep and drink 72 glasses of water of day.

Boscia Charcoal Makeup Melter. I actually already repurchased the full size of this product. I received it as a sample from Sephora in one of my purchases and, I kid you not, this balm is the real deal. I only use this and then my Micellar water to pick up any tiny bits left behind and I am done. You massage it on your dry face, including your eyes, and then wash off with warm water. The proof is in the bathroom sink when you see all the makeup swirling down the drain. No need to fuss with another cleanser or product.

Morrocan Oil Treatment. I really cried when I ran out of this product. More because I tipped it over and it spilled all over my counter, but also because it’s so damn good. I have frizzy, wavy, medium length hair. It takes me a good hour to tame this monster, so I want to make sure that it damn well lasts. This product is the cherry on top of my blow out. It smells fabulous. Adds loads of shine. Tames the flyaways and leaves my hair sleek. As a bonus I rub the excess into my cuticles. Not sure if that does anything, but it leaves them nice and glossy.

Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray. This is probably the only product I will not be repurchasing. Not because I didn’t like it. It work great. Whenever I want to create beachy waves, this is my go to product. It’s smells divine and, unlike some other texturizer, it doesn’t have that gritty feel to it when you run your hands through your hair. The only problem is that it’s SO DAMN EXPENSIVE!!! Everytime I get a Birchbox, I pray that an Oribe sample is in there because that is the only way I can get my hands on these puppies without breaking the bank.

What products made it into your empties bin this month? Share below in the comments and let me know what I should buy or skip.

Have a wonderful Sunday, my friends!
