April Monthly Favorites

When I was going through my beauty cart earlier today to pick out my April favorites, I came to the stunning realization that I bought a lot of makeup last month. Between the Ulta and Sephora sales and some launches that I was waiting for, a lot of packages arrived at my doorstep. Now that’s great because in the coming months, I’m hoping that my monthly faves post is chock full of great stuff. The downside is that this month, with so much stuff for me to try, I never really got down and dirty on many products. I was just moving from one thing to the next.

That’s ok. My list may be short for April, but these products were definitely some that I reached for multiple times.

Face

Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer. Now this stuff is DAMN EXPENSIVE and I realize that I was using it very sparingly for that reason. However, I committed to use it last month because what’s the point in buying something if you never actually use it, right? Now, admittedly, I only use one or two pumps, but that’s all you need! The product is so smooth that a few pumps is all it takes to cover your entire face. I primarily use it on my T-zone, but whatever is left on my fingers, I apply everywhere else. This sinks into all my pores and fine lines and just creates this illusion of smoothness. It basically guarantees me a good makeup day.

Eyes

It Cosmetics Brow Power in Universal Taupe. I got this product in one of my Boxycharms and I actually gave it to Sofia one day. However, having run out of my Almay Brow Pencil, I was desperate and requested it back (temporarily) until my Amazon order came in. Even though I got my Almay Brow Pencil in, I still haven’t given the Brow Power back. I know, I’m horrible. The formula is not too creamy, but not too stiff and the point is the perfect shape to fill in my brows. Also, don’t be too afraid of the color. It looked a bit dark for my light brown hair at first, but if you use a light hand and not too much pressure, it miraculously matches perfectly.

The BrowGal Tinted Brow Gel with Microfibers. Another Boxycharm item that made it to the fave list. I really don’t tend to fuss too much with my brows. I just like to fill them in to add color and shape and that’s it. Brow gel is one of those things that I just kind of forget to use, mostly because I’m in a rush. However, having received this item in my last box, I was intrigued by the fact that it was tinted and as a blonde browed girl, anything to help give color or dimension immediately gets my attention. This stuff not only keeps your brows in place and reigns in your stray hairs, but it also helps the brow pencil along and fills in those gaps that you may have missed. It’s definitely on the top shelf of my cart.

Lips

Almay Smart Shade Butter Kiss Balm in Berry Light Medium. I picked this little beauty up in Walgreens one day when I was on my way to the movies with the kids and it’s never left my purse ever since. This is what I like to call a pinch hitter product. On those days when you are rushing out the door and forget your lipstick or have not been drinking as much water as you should and your lips are dry, then dig this one from the bottom of the purse and apply. The color is supposed to work with your skin tone to give you the perfect shade in that color (i.e. berry) and the balm nourishes your chapped lips. It also has the loveliest sheen to it. I’ve applied this right before a client meeting and also on those days when you are running errands and realize that you have not a lick of color on your face. In either scenario, it was a life saver.

What were your go to beauty products this month? Any suggestions for May? If so, leave them in the comments below.

Till next time, my friends!

Monthly Faves – February 2018

Where did February go? I can’t say that I am sad to see it gone as it was a particularly hectic month for me, however, I blinked and now it’s March.

That’s ok because now I get talk to you fine folks about what products really made me smile this month and had me reaching for them time and time again.

Face

Baked Foundation in Light from Antonym Cosmetics. It’s funny because when I first reviewed this powder foundation, I liked it, but not necessarily as a foundation, but more as a face powder. I didn’t think it provided enough coverage, but I realized that I was using it incorrectly. When I first tried it, I was just picking it up with the brush and sweeping it across my face. All that did was thin the powder out and really just control the oils, but not really cover anything. However, when I used a denser brush, swirled it against the pan and pressed and buffed in circles into the skin, this made a world of difference. I then spritzed my face with some setting spray, allowing the foundation to sink in and, although didn’t give me anywhere near full coverage, I was totally comfortable with the look. Somewhere between light and medium and just right for a natural everyday look.

Baked Blush in Peach from Antomym Cosmetics. Another product from Antonym that I underestimated. The peach color looks deceivingly light on the pan and I got the impression that I was going to have use lot’s of it to make it show up against my fair skin. However, the first time I used it, I went balls to the wall with this color on my cheeks and immediately regretted it. Do not be deceived. This color is definitely not a light weight. A simple swish with a brush and some light blending and you got yourself some perfectly peach cheeks with just a hint of shimmer.

Ofra Blush Gadot Refill (BoxyCharm).  Now this is what I call a multitasker. I have used this as a blush, in my crease, on my lids and smudged on the lower lid. I find this earthy peachy tan color to be absolute perfection. It blends beautifully and gives you just the healthiest glow. I feel like this is the perfect color to get me in the mood for spring and summer, but let’s face it, I’ll probably use it year round. There are perks to living in Florida, ya’ll!

Eyes

Colourpop Crème Gel Liner in Mr. Bing. I have put this eyeliner in and out of my Colourpop cart like 10 times in the last year, however, it wasn’t until January, when there was a 20% off sale, that I finally bought it. I heard Kathleen Lights recommend it in one of her videos saying that it was the perfect brown for her green eyes, so decided to just hit submit. Oh My Gosh! This really is the nicest brown eyeliner I own. It’s rich, but definitely not too dark and has the slightest tinge of burgundy, which really does make my blue/green eyes pop. I’ve always been a fan of the Coloupop Crème Gel formula, so nothing to new to say about that, but the color…WOW!

Lips

Colourpop Ultra Satin Liquid Lipstick in Dreamy. Another Kathleen Lights recommendation that comes straight from her latest collaboration and, technically, shouldn’t be anywhere near this list because it has a slight cheesy like smell to it. Seriously, I wonder if I got a bad one or if all of them have the same scent to them, however, I am willing to excuse the cheesy feet smell because this really is my Dream color. It’s literally the same color as the Ofra blush, but in liquid form and it applies evenly, almost in one swipe and lasts all day. I kid you not. I applied this the other day before a meeting at 8am. Had breakfast, 2 cups of coffee, talked, ate lunch, drank a coke, talked some more and this color was still going strong. I then went to have drinks with my co-workers at 5pm and only around 7:30pm, did I see some dramatic fade. I never once re-applied my lipstick. But you want to know the BIG KICKER? It’s not uncomfortable or particularly drying. I didn’t find myself licking my lips or reaching for some lip balm. Can’t wait to see if all the Ultra Satin formula’s are the same.

Burt’s Bees 100% Natural Moisturizing Lipstick in Blush Basin. I know, I know. You must be sick of all the peach in this list, but I can’t help it. I love me that juicy fruit and it’s gorgeous pinky orange color. This lipstick has more of a pinky nude color that is good on it’s own or even layered over a lip liner. In fact, if I didn’t find the above mentioned Colourpop liquid lipstick so comfortable and long lasting, I would layer it over that one to revive the color. Needless to say, the formula is also super moisturizing and lightweight. However, I feel that you need 2 layers to make the color pop and, since it is a cream lipstick, you will need to reapply. That doesn’t bother me at all, but just letting you all know.

Whew! I feel like I had a lot to say this month and I didn’t even include any eyeshadows!

I hope you all enjoyed my picks and see you next month.

Till next time, my friends!
