Sale What? Soap & Glory’s Sexy Mother Pucker Matte & Gloss Sticks

Picture this: Sunday night and I have an intense craving for chocolate. Having consumed all the good stuff from my kids Halloween stash and left with only the crap candy, I put on a bra (can we say Cla-Say!) and high tail it to Walgreens in my tights and Captain America t-shirt for some real chocolate.

I mean, let’s face it, Tootsie Roll. You need to decide if you are chocolate or taffy, because you can’t have it both ways.

Anyways, as it has become the custom, I take the long way to the candy aisle through the beauty section. Not much is calling my attention and nothing new seems to have hit the shelves yet, but low and behold, I see a flutter of little orange clearance tags on one of the Soap & Glory shelves and my interest is piqued.

As a fan of their Flake Away scrub, I love Soap & Glory’s bath items, but I have to admit that I’m not very familiar with their make up, so I was happy to see that it was their Sexy Mother Puckers Matte Lips and Gloss Sticks that were on sale. I find that Soap & Glory products to be a little higher than your average drugstore products and very rarely do I see a sale on makeup so I’m not usually very incentivized to buy. Also, although these lippies seem to have been around for a while, I had no idea they existed and was excited to put them to the test.

I picked up a beautiful Matte Shade called Chocoberry. It’s a lovely mauve pink color that applies creamy, but dries down to a powdery, velvet finish. It actually reminds me a lot of the Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencils in texture and finish, but it glides on way smoother as the applicator has a wider, flat tip and doesn’t tug quite as much on the lips as the Nars pencils do.

In an attempt to venture past my usual red lips, I was intrigued by the Gloss Stick in Purple Rain. For those of you that love a good vampy lip, don’t be fooled by the color of the stick, it’s actually quite a sheer berry colored gloss, which is nice if you are beginning to dip your foot into the darker shades, but leaves you feeling swindled, especially if you were expecting something special named after one of the most iconic songs from the 80’s.

I’m sorry, Prince. It’s not worthy of your talent.

However, the Gloss Sticks did manage to redeem themselves with Pink Punch. A vibrant hot pink that glides on easily and does indeed pack a nice upper cut. Unlike the glosses you typically find in a tube, these feel more like a balm and although don’t have megawatt shine, do add a nice glossy finish that I found to last through coffee and an hour long conference call at work.

Normally priced at $6, they were on sale for $3.89 in store and I am not sure if they are being discontinued or maybe making room for new colors, but you can still find them at Walgreens.com, ($4.79 online), so make sure you head on over and snag one.

Anyone else find any sale items in their local drugstores? If so, comment down below.

Till next time, my friends!

Too Faced, Holiday

Too Faced Gingerbread Man Melted Matte Liquid Lipstick

I going to preface this post by saying that I know almost all the brands launched their holiday collections in September and October and I am very late to the game, but I have a real issue with just pretending that Halloween and Thanksgiving don’t exist and going straight into Christmas.

For the love of God! Let me enjoy my pumpkins!

However, I was in Sephora over the weekend and I saw that Too Faced released a beautiful, deep chocolatey melted matte lipstick with just a tinge of orange called Gingerbread Man as part of their holiday collection and I knew I had to have it.

The color is actually quite perfect for fall, despite the name, and it is practically begging to be worn with cozy sweaters and boots. Like all of Too Faced’s Melted Mattes, Gingerbread Man is longwear, pigmented and also a little drying to the lips. Also, it doesn’t smell like gingerbread to me, but more like buttercream.

I’m such a spaz at applying liquid lipstick, especially dark colors. Mostly because I am about as coordinated as a toddler and have an issue with staying within the lip line, even if I use a lip liner, so the first time I tried this on, I looked like I went to town on a Hershey bar and I forgot to lick the chocolate off. So, the second time called for more precision. A surgeon could have performed an appendectomy faster than I applied my lipstick today.

I’m a big fan of a light eye look and a bold lip and paired with my navy blue T-shirt, I thought it really made my eyes pop. I think me likey a lot!!

I also lighten it up a bit, depending on my look, by adding a bit of Urban Decay’s Fuel on the center and smacking my lips together. It also makes it a bit more comfortable to wear.

Update:

I’ve been carrying this color for a few days now in the makeup bag, so you know it’s a keeper, yet I wonder as we transition to winter whether I will reach for it as much as I do now. Typically, I reach for red and berries in the winter, but I guess we will play by ear.

Let me know any other holiday lippies I should try. I’m game for anything!

Till next time, my friends!

Lipstick Battle

Lipstick Battle – Lip Gloss Edition

About a week ago, I stopped by Sephora and saw the new Becca Liquid Crystal Glow Gloss. I swear the display was haloed because it was calling to me. I glided over to the case and swatched this golden peachy perfection called Champagne Dream x Bellini and even under the fluorescent Sephora lights was mesmerized by their glittery goodness. I was sold!

I managed to snag the last one in that color (a sign that it was destined to be mine) and went to the register and happily shelled out my hard-earned $22. I even got some samples from the nice Sephora lady. This was the perfect day.

You would think the story ends there, but, my friends, you are wrong. Little did I know that a Lipstick Battle was brewing, because not even two days later, I received my order of  BH Cosmetics goodies, which contained a possible Contender for the title of Lip Gloss Champion 2017.

Entering the ring at an impressively light $5.99 is the Nude Rose Lip Gloss in Marilyn. A gorgeous rose toned lip gloss with flecks of gold that shimmer in the sunlight like a phoenix rising from the ashes.

Ohh…the Battle is on!!!

Both lip glosses work well as a topper or alone as a gloss and they both smell divine. Becca smells like vanilla cupcakes and BH like an orange creamsicle. Becca does have a little more staying power on the lips, but BH is almost a 1/4 of the cost.

It’s almost a tie and I’m beginning to sweat here trying to make a decision. It seems that after each round neither has a real advantage over the other. However, after much deliberation, the winner, by the tiniest of margins, is Becca. Overall, the shimmer payoff is just slightly better than BH.

But there are no losers in this battle, my friends. Both lip glosses are winners and both deserve a spot in the top shelf of your vanities this summer.

Who will be battling it out next time in the ring? Stay tuned and find out!
